Going Green!

My mom got here last night (from Pittsburgh)...she came a day earlier because the weather was getting really bad and she didn't want to risk driving in bad conditions.

She came up for Reilly's birthday and to celebrate mine in a few days...Her birthday is at the end of February, so we usually combine our birthday celebrations...

This year, I thought that a "shared experience" would be the perfect gift for the both of us...

My original plan was to have an "everything green" dinner for her when she arrived and let her guess what the surprise was. Then, I was going to come down the stairs with a witch hat on and give her the card that I had made and give her the Wicked Cd..

Of course, it didn't happen like it did in my here's the REAL way things played out...

This morning (the kids had a snow day by the way) my mom was slaving away wiping off my walls (What the...?) and she asked me what we were having for dinner tonight. I said that it was going to be a hint for something coming. She piped in, "Oh, is it that show that you said we were going to?".....!!! I almost died!--I had mentioned to her a few weeks ago that maybe when she came at the end of January, I would try to get tickets to Wicked, but I never mentioned anything after that...I thought she had forgotten.

I was desperate at this point, so I started totally lying and saying stuff like, "Oh man! I hope you're not going to be disappointed now, because I wasn't able to get tickets--they were sold out."

Then she started with the crazy talk..."Well you'll probably going to get them anyway".

I realized at that moment that I could not wait until dinner to share my secret with I went up stairs and donned my witch hat and came down with the card...

We went ahead with the "green dinner" pesto penne with chicken, green Junior League salad, green beans, green pudding...

Can't wait for Saturday...We're going to be missing Stake Women's Conference...

How Wicked!

**Don't you hate it when surprise plans don't work out the way you envisioned them?

**What is the maximum you would pay to see a show you really wanted to see?

  1. I'm secretly glad it didn't work out perfectly. But then again, I can tell stories about you at women's conference and I'll just say, "A former friend of mine who loved wickedness more than women's conference..."

  2. good one, Evil HR Lady! love it!

Shannon ~ any way you told mom,I'm sure she was excited about going.

by the way, that 3 looks a bit funny. was white out involved? heh heh.

  3. OMG~

    your dinner looks FABULOUS!

and what a great birthday celebration for both of you!!!

My daughter's bday is in 2 weeks...I think we're going to do a mom & daughter spa day!!! (I should get SOMETHING for giving birth to her AND raising her to the ripe age of 18....right???)

  4. Wicked is wonderful--you'll love it!

  5. Sounds like a wonderful way to celebrate, although I can just imagine your frustration with the delivery! Hope you have a wonderful day. You'll just have one more strike against you for eternal progress......tee hee.

My family has four birthdays (3 sisters and my only brother) within 7 days! It's pretty awesome and we celebrate together anytime we can! March 26, March 27, March 29 and April 1. It's a crazy week (not to mention costly)!

Have a great time. Hope to see you and your mom on Sunday!

  6. yea, that Sherry spoils all surprises.. She had mentioned it to me a few weeks ago that you guys might go see that. I'm so stinkin' jealous! Let me know how it went, and take lots of pictures!

  7. Surprises never turn out just right. Mostly because I can't keep my mouth shut. I love the green dinner. It looks very wicked!

  8. wow- you are both going to LOVE wicked!!

you are so thoughtful to think all that great green stuff up- I'm sure she loved it all the same!! :)

  9. That's too bad about the thwarted surprise, but it's kind of funny too.

I'm not sure how much I'd pay to see a show because there's never been a show that I'm bonkers about seeing. (I realize I'm the only woman in American not crazy about seeing Wicked.)

  10. I haven't seen Wicked so that's fun that you will get to go. I have heard people that love it and people that hate it. I think it just depends on what you like. I loved Evil HR Lady's comment:) What day is your birthday? Benjamin's is on the 7th. Have a great time and a happy one!

  11. What a fun surprise! I hope you have a great time and love the green dinner!

  12. GO TO THE GYM!!! I'm leaving in 20 minutes. You should go work out, too. (this is your little motivation) °Ü°

  13. We have tickets for Wicked in July.....July!?! It can't get here soon enough.

  14. mom told me about it too, so I didn't know it was a surprise! Have tons of fun though! I'll never forget going to see Les Miserables with you and Brian on my 16th Birthday. So much fun!

  15. How fun!!

Can you believe I've never even heard the Wicked soundtrack? I read the book years ago. I have heard wonderful things about the musical, but somehow I haven't ever gotten around to tracking it down...

Sounds like a great thing to do with your mom.

  16. Actually, I don't like surprises very often.

I don't know how much I would pay. I guess it would depend on the situation and how much notice I had. I might be willing to pay a very lot for something that I felt was worth it.

What a fun thing to do with your Mom!
