Three for Thursday...confessions!

1. When I was 6 years old, living in Texas, the neighbor boy and I thought that it would be fun to pull the unripened figs off of our fig tree and fill up our belly buttons with the milky substance.

We then threw ourselves on the ground in a fit of laughter after saying something along the lines of "Boogy Boogy"...(does this story trouble you as much as it does me?)

2. I subscribed to Colombia House when I was in my early 20's--trying to beef up my CD collection. (Between my roommate and I, we had a total of about 5 cd's combined!) Oh! and one of them was KENNY G!...does that even count?!

Anyway, so I wrote down my 10 cds for a penny request. One of the ones I picked was the Eagles Greatest Hits.

When my music came in the mail, I noticed that I had 2 copies of the Eagles Greatest Hits.

"The nerve of Colombia House for sending me duplicates", I thought. I sent them a snippy note back informing them of their mistake and requesting that they replace it with The Bangels Greatest Hits (I was so cool!)

Needless to say, I now only have one part of the Eagles Greatest Hits...VOLUME 2!

What a dork! The saddest part of this whole story is that I didn't even realize the magnitude of my dorkiness until Brian and I started dating and he asked me why I only had Eagles Greatest Hits Volume 2.

3. I've always struggled with understanding the words to songs...

When I was in junior high, I used to think that "Dirty Deeds, Done Dirt Cheap" was "Dirty Deeds, Dungarees" and "Wake Me Up Before You GoGo" was "Wake Me Up And Pour Me Cocoa" (which is so ludicrous as it is totally obvious to me now being that it actually says on the front of the album cover)..."Wake Me Up Before You GoGo" (I obviously never owned this!)

I also used to think that the song "Give Me the Beat Boy to Soothe My Soul" (Drift Away) was, "Give Me the Bean Pole To Soothe My Soul" (what the..??!)

I know there are a million other songs that I have screwed up the lyrics to even up until recently. These were the only three that came to my mind at the moment.

One of my favorite movies is Tommy Boy. I love the scene where Chris Farley and David Spade were driving down the road singing the Carpenter's song at the top of their lungs (and didn't know all the words). I crack up every time I think about that scene!

**Am I the only one who struggles with the lyrics to songs?
**Do you own the Eagles Greatest Hits?
(And if so, can I borrow your volume 1?)
tee hee!

  1. You've got me rolling on the floor laughing. I can relate! My husband is always correcting my song lyrics. Who made him the lyric police?

  2. I usually get the lyrics.
I'm not a fan of the Eagles. But I remember those Columbia House deals. I thought I was so cool, too. Oh, the follies of youth. Your story cracks me up.

  3. Oh gosh, I get lyrics wrong all the time. I love it though, because I love laughing at myself.

  4. Yes, I'm disturbed by the neighbor boy fig story, what a weird thing for you two to be doing.

That's too funny about the Eagles Greatest Hits. I was a member of Columbia House forever and really beefed up my cd collection through them. It's really ridiculous to think about how much money I paid them over the years while I was in college because I was earning hardly anything back then yet always spent money on cds.

Mixed up lyrics totally make me laugh. We all do it, and then feel the same dismay when we finally "hear" the right words for the first time.

  6. Your mixed-up lyrics are cracking me up, Shannon. Wake me up and pour me cocoa? That's just cute.

The one that comes to mind is The Water is Wide as performed by James Taylor. There is one spot where I kept hearing "ticker and hiver". Even though I knew that that didn't make sense and couldn't possibly be right, I couldn't hear anything else for all the world. Jill finally clued me in that he was saying "taker and giver". Oh! I still hear it the other way...

    I love the Eagles.
