Special Delivery

What would motivate me to spring out of bed at 6:00am on a dark, rainy morning...

drive down the road and enter these doors armed (with a camera)...

to pick up this noisy box with holes?...

15 of these little ladies, that's what!

After their long journey from a hatchery in California...

they were happy to have their bills dipped in water and to get cozy under the heat lamp...

These tiny little ducklings will grow approximately a pound per week and poop on an average of once every 9 minutes...but they are oh! so worth it!!
Although we are only keeping two out of these 15, I always like to have "ducks in training"...
It makes it easier when the new ones can learn the routine from the old ones.
I placed the order with a few other people since a minimum of 10 ducklings is required to ship. I wish I could bring more than 2 into our flock of 3 ducks but I'm afraid our neighbor will not be on board with that (after the mallard incident last year). I didn't want to push it.

Good times over here!

  1. they are so sweet! Do you know which of the 2 you are going to keep? Are you going to keep males or females? Good luck with it all!

  3. Oh! I love it! I haven't researched ducks like I have chickens, so I'm not quite longing for them the same way. I am still waiting for when we can do chickens. So cute! And when the time comes I will probably pick your brain about the chickens!

  4. Also, what were you listening to on the way? And you realize what you named this post, just after you were accused of being pregnant, right? A little deceiving when you just see the titles on your reader!
