Normally, I don't have big parties for my kids except for special birthdays like 5, 8, 12, 16 etc...
I probably should have done one for her last year since she turned "double digits"...
I took a lot of heat for not having a double digits party for her 10th birthday, so we attempted to make up for it this year.
I tried doing the right thing by having her just invite the girls in her 5th grade class this year...(I didn't want anyone to feel left out). I was actually glad that the temperatures have been so frigid that the kids had to stay inside and have indoor recess. This meant they weren't going to be able to mingle with kids from other classes at outdoor recess.
It totally backfired on me.
Some of her closer friends are in different classes and when they found out through the grapevine that they weren't included, they felt bad.
Arrgghhh.....
What is it with girls???
I thought it would be a fun to have this be a make and take party...
I found this great craft on pinterest that I did with my Activity Day girls at church...
(Although Reilly had already made one, it was something that she was excited to make again)
Each girl was given a blank canvas and instructions to choose a selection of scrapbook paper to be decopaged onto the canvas for the background...
They each got a template of a face/neck and a list of descriptive words that they could choose to describe themselves with...
Some used paint for the hair, and some used yarn...
Gotta love a girl with a healthy self esteem!
I loved seeing how each girl described themselves...
After pizza and salad and cupcakes, it was onto a bit of impromptu gift opening of a few of the gifts...(I wasn't a big fan of this since there was alot of chaos at this point and some parents were already coming to pick up their daughters)...
It was really a successful party, (although I think I sprouted a whole crop of gray hairs in the process of it)...
I appreciated having my mom there as well as our friends, Mary and Nicole Dischinger to help with taking pictures and assisting with the activity...
Good times!
